Denver’s Best Engagement Party Venues

Denver’s Best Engagement Party Venues

Your wedding reception will probably be the most memorable party you ever throw, but it’s not the only one associated with your wedding! There are bridal showers, bachelor and bachelorette parties, and more to be planned — not to mention the engagement party.

Your engagement party has three main purposes — to introduce your families (if they haven’t already met), to share the news of your recent engagement with everyone, and to have a good time! Traditionally, you’ll invite the wedding party, your families, and close guests who will also be invited to the wedding.

But really, it’s up to you! Maybe you want to have a big engagement party and a tiny wedding on a mountaintop, or maybe you want your engagement party to be an intimate dinner and drinks while you save the blowout bash for the wedding itself.

Whatever kind of party you want to throw, there’s a place in the Denver area for you. Here are a few of our favorites.

Beer and Burgers
If there’s one thing that Colorado’s food and drink scene is known for, it’s craft beer — from the giants like New Belgium and Oskar Blues all the way down to the little nanobreweries putting out a few hundred barrels a year. So if you want your engagement party to have a real Colorado feel to it, try a brewpub or brewery! There are dozens in the Denver area, but these are a few of our favorites.

Black Shirt Brewing
For a long tap list with a rebellious streak, Black Shirt Brewing is right up your alley. Black Shirt Brewery features an array of styles, from IPAs and saisons to Berliners and Porters, plus wine, cider, and specialty cocktails.

You can rent out the taproom to host 50 people sitting or 100 standing, or for smaller groups, the Brewhouse can seat 30. If the weather is nice, take the party into the open air with the beer garden, which can comfortably seat 100. Or go all out and buy out the entire facility! Vine Street Pub
Following in the footsteps of its Boulder sister establishments — Mountain Sun, Southern Sun, and Under the Sun — Vine Street Pub & Brewery offers indoor and outdoor dining, a selection of in-house beers, and a casual dining atmosphere that’s perfect for a low-key party.

Wynkoop Brewing Company
Wynkoop Brewery offers five different event areas, or even a complete buyout of the entire facility, hosting anywhere from 12 to 1200 people! Whether you’re looking for an intimate sit-down setting with a few friends, a sports bar feel with pool table and TV, a full-size billiards hall, or a cocktail reception with hors d’oeuvres and drinks, Wynkoop can accommodate you.

Keeping it Casual
Lots of engagement parties are formal affairs — shiny shoes, champagne flutes, and pressed linens — but maybe that’s just not you! If you’re the kind of person who considers a shirt with buttons to be “dressed up,” but you’re more interested in great food than a row of taps, these venues are perfect.

Work & Class
A small Latin American eatery built inside an old shipping container, Work & Class is nonetheless flooded with light, a clean aesthetic, and plenty of good times. Their menu blends American and Latin flavors in a simple menu that swaps out a few items a year to fit seasonal offerings. If you’re looking to throw a party without the fuss, try them out.

Meadowlark Kitchen
Where better to host a casual party than at the home of 5280 Magazine’s Best Burger? Offering simple American fare with just a touch of class, including an impressive array of signature cocktails, Meadowlark Kitchen is a great place to find rib-sticking food in a casual environment.

Mercantile Dining & Provision
Mercantile was born of Chef Alex Seidel’s two previous businesses — Fruition Restaurant and Fruition Farms. Combining a classic European market, featuring preserves, charcuterie, and preserved goods, a coffee bar, and a restaurant that ties them all together, Mercantile offers a unique and eclectic menu that brings together local ingredients with international inspiration.

Fancy Fare
Maybe casual dining isn’t what you’re after — you only get one engagement party, after all — and you want to pull out all the stops with the finest of fine dining. If you want to get all dressed up and hit the town for your party, try one of these!

The Brown Palace
This iconic hotel has been a Denver landmark for more than a century, boasting timeless luxury and modern amenities all rolled into one. Whether you’re interested in cocktails and small plates, a decadent brunch, or even a traditional English high tea, one of The Brown Palace’s six restaurants will be the perfect place for your event.

Guard and Grace
Featuring fiery grills and charcuterie, an oyster bar, private rooms, and a floor-to-ceiling wine cellar, you might think Guard and Grace was lifted straight out of the 50s. But it’s a steakhouse with a modern twist. Open plan seating, natural light, and award-winning design make this an establishment to remember. And with three private dining rooms, seating up to 125 people, it’s the perfect spot for an upscale engagement party.

Going Big
If you have the means to go all-out for your engagement party, go for it! Here are a few venues that will truly raise the bar on all future parties.

Mile High Station
Mile High Station is an enormous venue — they used to build boats inside it, in fact. And with a capacity of 1,200, you’ll have to dig pretty deep in your Facebook friends list to fill it up. But once you’re inside, you’ll find exposed brick, steel I-beams, and antique bulbs for an industrial-chic look that’s perfect for any big event.

Washington Park Boathouse
Built in 1913 and renovated in 2012, the Washington Park Boathouse looks out at a broad landscape, sweeping flowerbeds, and the placid waters of Smith Lake. The structure holds 150 people and, since it’s city property, is surprisingly affordable — just $600-$1000 for a nine-hour rental block!

Seawell Ballroom
Located in the heart of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, the Seawell Ballroom can be anything you want it to be — almost literally. With customized floor plans, more than 250 customizable LED light fixtures, a theater-caliber sound system, HD projector screens, and flexible fabric panels to divide the room, you can transform this space to match whatever vision you might have. Add in exclusive food and drink service from Epicurean Catering and room for up to 1000 people, and there’s no better place to create the party of your dreams.

Taking the Next Step
You’ve found the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, and there’s no feeling like it in the world. Once you’re finished celebrating, it’s time to start planning for the big day.
