How Should A Men's Wedding Band Fit?

How Should A Men's Wedding Band Fit?

There are many factors to consider when trying to decide on the correct fit for a wedding band. A men’s wedding band should fit snug and secure, but there are several factors you should consider that will help determine what the right fit is for you. Here are three things to consider when trying to decide where to start sizing.

  • A man’s hand can be less consistent than a woman’s.
  • There isn’t a “normal” shape and size to a man’s fingers.
  • Any external factors that may impact your finger size.

How Should A Men’s Wedding Band Fit?

When putting on the wedding band, you should feel a slight resistance as you pass over the knuckle and it should feel snug and secure at the bottom of your finger. You do not want the ring to fit too tight at the bottom.

When you remove the ring, you should feel some minor resistance and you should have to apply a little extra pressure to pass the ring back over your knuckle. It’s a good practice to speak to your jeweler about wearing a sizing kit and testing out multiple sizes to help you select the best choice for you.

Factors That Can Impact Your Ring Size

You want to consider the ratio of knuckle size to actual finger size. Sometimes there is a large disparity between these two areas. The knuckle could be much larger than the finger and vice versa.

There are also external factors to consider such as temperature and climate. How active you are also plays a large role. If you’re in a warmer climate and are a very active person, you’re looking at a different fit than someone who’s in a colder climate and less active.

Often overlooked, temperatures can cause either swelling in higher temperatures or shrinking in colder temperatures. If you live in a climate that has both extremes you may want to consider purchasing a rink that works well in both. Some other external factors to consider at:

Common External Factors

  • Humidity may lead to extra swelling.
  • Hydration may lead to either swelling if you are dehydrated or shrinking if you are well hydrated.
  • Time of day. As we work throughout the day, circulation can impact our finger size.

Longer-Term Factors

  • Gaining or losing weight
  • Arthritis
  • Growing older

Why Ring Size Matters

Choosing the right ring fit matters for several reasons. If you select a ring that fits too tight it can lead to some significant discomfort which might result in you wearing your ring far less than you would normally. On that same note, if you select a ring that is too loose you run the risk of it sliding right off of your finger and losing it.
